Please pray for me and my baby.
I am having my surgery on Tuesday by Dr. Nath and Dr. Shenaq on Tuesday July 8th. I had a car accident April 6th of this year and I was 17 weeks pregnant. My little angel survived, but when I need my hand the most this happened. This is my first baby and I don't know how I will take care of her. God please give the opportunity to move my arm and hand again to be able to take care of my little girl.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.

Hi guest, there have been a few new parents posting recently, here's a thread from a while back with some good advice and a couple of new mum contacts http://ubpn.org/messageboard/thread ... hread=5516
Try not to worry too much, the surgery will hopefully help you but during recovery time (which can take a long time) I'm sure you will manage. Don't forget to post here if you have any parenting questions, there are quite a few one handed parents out there :0)

i'm expecting my first baby in august. had a bpi for 5 years and have difficulties with my other arm. its a really scary but exciting time. i have bought a few things that i hope will help - baby buckets etc. i hope you will have some support (i'm a single parent). good luck and feel free to mail me if you like - tinapb@hotmail.com
dont let others put doubt in your mind - its so easy to have your confidence knocked. i was really worried about breast feeding but saw a specialist today and now i'm quite excited about it. if i dont succeed it wont be because of my injuries and any other new mum would have had the same problem.
be brave - hope the pain is ok

Re: Please pray for me and my baby.
Blessings to you and your little angel.
I hope your surgery is successful, but you know, all your baby needs is your love - when she's older, it won't matter to her if you do things slightly differently for her than other Mums would do - I am sure she will just be happy that you and she survived the crash.
My father had a deformed hand from falling into a fire as a young toddler.
His hand was always that way, my entire life - it never mattered to us children, even when he found things difficult to do because of it, we just found a way to do them together.
You are already a wonderful Mum - try and remember that. None of us gets a handbook with these babies, we all learn by our mistakes lol
good luck
