Discovered help for biting affected hand!

Hi all...well, it has taken me over a year to figure this out...but now that I have, I need to pass it on! We tried SOOO many things to get Parker to stop biting his fingers...wrapping it with one thing after another, putting tabasco sauce on it, different splints, etc etc. Well, what finally worked was BRIBERY!!! I told Parker that if he could let his finger completely heal, he could pick out any toy he wanted at the store! Well, it took about 1.5 months, and one or two setbacks, but his pinky is now completely healed and Parker has a brand new box of BALL PIT BALLS! Hope this works for some of you too!

Yeah Parker! Glad to hear that your idea worked and Parker got some new pit ball balls. Hey - bribery isn't bad! It taught him to work towards a goal! Great idea!

We struggle with this issue as well, only Ian chews on his thumb and pointer finger. It is heartbreaking. I'm willing to try bribery, thanks for the suggestion and glad it worked for you!

I heard recently that Dr. Nath told a NY couple to splint their child with so that she couldn't bend her elbow (at night, when she mutilated the worse)

It worked well and she is healing.

It goes to show you how helpful this website is. I had no idea that my son biting his pointer finger was related to his bpi. Why is this related? He has been biting his finger for forever.

Tess is 7 and still biting her fingers. She says they "talk" to her. It must be very annoying so I have given up nagging her. Her nails on two of her fingers are so damaged from biting as a baby that they have little chance of normal growth. When she was a baby we used Coban (3M) and that worked well. We couldn't put it on at night because we were afraid she would get it off and choke on it. Good luck!
