Lizzyb, Thanks for the great link to how Mel can put her hair up in a ponytail. I emailed it to her! Joy, Melanie uses the clothes pin to attach the hook end of her bra to the front of her pants. Then she brings the other part of the bra around to the front and hooks it to the one that is attached with the clothes pin and then she takes the clothes pin off and turns the bra around the correct way. Hope that makes sense to you. Sue

Hi all,

There is a book that has been out for a long time and it has helped some. It is called One Handed in a Two Handed World by Tommye K. Mayer.

Check it out it might help some.

Hugs,

To cut a sandwich to can try a rocker knife. You use like the name says. It is a nice that the blade is rounded and you rock it back and forth to cut things one handed. They are not overly large so you can take it with you when you go out. Although I know people have mixed success you should try it, you never know what will work!

To put sheets on your bed you could try a simple trick. Use a couple heavy books(or something else with weight) After you spread the fitted sheet out place the weighted objects at either top of bottom of bed(both corners) Tuck the sheets at the other end. Then move the weights to the other side and tuck the other two corners. I hope that makes sense.

If you are having problems figuring out ways to do things consult an occupational therapist(I am one). Their job is figuring out ways for people to do every day things when they have lost certain abilities.

If you don't want to do that go on line snd search, "medical supply catalogs". They are filled with gadets to help people who are one armed(and other disabilities) function. They will usually send you a catalog for free.
Hope this helps!

Sue, Here's one of the links I found for the kitchen cutting boards.http://www.sammonspreston.com/Supply/pr ... ction=1629
They are a little pricey but the quality is good and they work! Sue

You can't do better than have a bit of Dycem matting nearby.

It is great for many things..it's no-slip surface is great for resting paper on that you are trying to write on; holding a plate while you eat off a tray; stopping a slice of bread from slipping around a work surface while you butter it; two bits work together to open jars (one piece around the jar which is then gripped between your knees..other bit over the lid under your hand to get a grip to twist off the top)...the list is endless.

I used to never leave the house without a piece in my handbag..it came in useful when writing out cheques for instance. A cheque-shaped piece slips under the cheque and you can write it without the whole thing going sideways for ever. Don't need it so much since we all went chip and pin.

I use a pizza cutter to cut sandwiches
Toasted bread is easier to put spreadsn on
open alot of things by puyying between my knees
Since on blood thinner, have some nice bruises
right now on the inside of knees
