Hi all...again. I was wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a hotel by TCH. I know there are tons and was looking for a good one. I was also wondering how far the hospital is from the airport. Thank you again for your help. Andrea

We've always had good accomodations at the Marriott. It's right across the street, they have an indoor pool and the rooms are nice. The restaurants are good, too. They don't have a shuttle, but they have their own private SUV's. They'll even drive you to TCH even though it's across the street, you might have luggage, etc.

We had good luck at the Crowne, too but some people have reported here that they have had bad experiences there.

I believe it was the Hampton Inn that we stayed at when we were there. Nice, clean and with a fridge and medical rate.

We statyed at the Holiday Inn Medical Center and it was right across the street as well. We had a great room with great service and even got a medical rate discount. They have a shuttle bus service that takes you to the hospital and picks you up. The shuttle even took us to Six Flags (which is about 10 minutes away from the hotel). The only thing I would have to say I didn't like about the hotel was their restaurant. The prices were very expensive and the food wasn't good nor was there even a good selection. We just ate in the hospital food court most of the time. The local number for the holiday inn is 713-528-7744--you do have to mention the brachial plexus clinic to get the discount. The number for the Crowne Plaza is 713-797-1110. I have also heard good things about them, but they are more expensive.

If you are coming into Houston Hobby Airport, it's only about 20 minutes from the airport to the hospital. If you are coming in from Bush Airport, it's more like 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic.

Good Luck!

We recently had a HORRID experience with Crowne. When I called to make the reservation, instead of reserving us 1 room for 5 nights, they reserved 5 rooms for 3 nights. Of course they didn't TELL us this when we checked in. Once we got to the room, it was very stale and muggy. The air conditioner had frozen so there was no fresh air at all and it was June. They did switch us to a different room, but it took a while. Needless to say, our first nights stay cost us $411.00. When I went to get the charges removed, I was informed that they didn't know WHEN the charges would be dropped. Having traveled some distance,I was NOT happy, because I was on a tight budget and I needed that money. It was finally resolved, but I will never stay there again. Thier restaurant is not good either; the food is not tasty and it is ENTIRELY over priced. The service is awful. We were LITERALLY the ONLY people in the restaurant one morning for breakfast and were treated poorly and the waitress acted as if we were a bother to her. The food was even cold. I would NOT reccomend this hotel to anyone ever again.

Two out of the three times we've been there, we stayed at the Crown Plaza. They were kind and courteous to us every time. I met some wonderful people when we stayed there. Many people who stay there also have children in the hospital for various reasons. They also gave us a fridge, micro, crib, and even a rubber ducky for Bradley. It is right across from the hospital. There are restaurants up and down the block (Subway, Chipotle, Chinese, and pizza) all easily accessable. We've always landed at Bush airport, it is about a 35-40 minute drive depending on traffic. The Crown has a little gift shop in case you forget any neccessities. There is also a restuarant connected to the hotel, the food wasnt to great, although they gave Bradley a free bowl of soup. Remember to ask for the medical discount rate when you choose the hotel.

Just wanted to mention that the "Brachial Plexus Rate" is even lower than the standard "Medical Rate. We stayed at the Crowne Plaza in April of this year, and at first I asked for the medical rate, which they quoted $69.00. Then I restated it as the Brachial Plexus rate, and they said "oh that's $59.00".

So it seems you have to be specific and ask for the "Brachial Plexus Rate" to get the lowest!

They are so nice and accomodating; we have stayed there 4 times now. They always gave Matthew something nice each day...a free dish of ice cream, a free breakfast, candy etc.

No matter which hospital you choose to stay at, remember when you look on the websites that you want the Medical Center hotel. If you take a downtown hotel, you will have a long way to travel.

good luck,
claudia

ps. we always stay at the Marriott Med Center.
