What do I bring to TCH?

We are leaving on 6/27 to go to TCH for my 5 year old's Mod Quad surgery. I have had a lot of input on what to bring, but could always use a little more on the types of things I need to bring with me. What kind of clothing? Any special Dr's notes? Anything you couldn't have lived without---stuff like that. Any advice would be helpful--Thanks.

The best thing I had that no one ever told me to bring was a phone card. There are so many area codes even just in Houston! I got a $5 card from WalMart and it was plenty! The rooms sometimes get cool, so you might want to bring a light jacket or sweater if you get cold. You can control the temp in the room, but still...............

Bring a towel. I thought the towels in the room were kind of small. And maybe some ear plugs (just kidding)! Not so you can't hear your child, but so you don't hear the bells and whistles going off every five minutes or all the people roaming the halls in the middle of the night. I was amazed at how loud the floor was a 2 am. But definitely the towels.

Good Luck.

If your child has a favorite stuffed animal, you can bring that and the stuffed animal can get the same kind of splint that your child gets.

It's HOT in Houston, so bring T-shirts (size or 2 big) and pull on shorts or sweat pants for your child...and SUN SCREEN.

Good luck!

That's a really good idea. My son has this stuffed monkey that he has been sleeping with since he were born. He still tries to take him everywhere. Having a splint on the money will just tickle him to pieces. Thanks for that great idea. Keep em' coming.

Bring something for yourself that is a stress-reducer. My daughter was only 10 months when she had her Mod Quad and when she slept I found myself pacing and worrying. A good book, music, or a journal could help YOU heal as well. Good Luck, you've made a good decision. Cec
