Hi everyone, Our daughter, Keelan was born on January 18th weighing 10lbs 14oz and her birth was Complicated by shoulder dystocia. As a result of her traumatic birth she was born with a right Erbs Palsy. She can move her fingers and last week lifted her arm slightly, We are still waiting on a referral appointment to see a specialist. We dont know what to expect in terms of tests to assertain the extent of Keelans injuries, there does not seem to be many specialists with experience of erbs here in Dublin, all replies welcome, glad we are not alone...S/

Congratulations on your beautiful new daughter. I'm sorry to hear about the birth here tho...you are very welcome in our new world. There is another web site that I found the most helpful one out there...

Hi Sharon
My name is karen and I live in the UK
my son Gavin is 12 years old now and has a right Erb's
have you been to the Central Remedial Clinic?
I think it's at Clontarf - the surgeon there, Darragh Hines is very experienced in the treatment of children with Erb's Palsy and works closely with Professor Rolfe Birch here in the UK.
Darragh is a lovely Doctor - I have had the pleasure of meeting him several times, both in Ireland at meetings of the Erb's palsy Association of Ireland and also in Paris at an international Symposium of Brachial plexus Surgeons.
If you need any help contating the Irish association you can e mail me at; info@erbspalsygroup.com and I can give you their contact e mail details.
Don't be downhearted, there is help available in Dublin.
Hope to hear from you
Karen

Hi sharon!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I know exactly how you must be feeling. I can tell you now that if you need anyone to talk to I reccommend Karen from the Erbs Palsy Support Group, She is fantastic. My Husband deals with things in a very different way to me. I need to talk about things and he doesn't. I do not know what i would have done if Karen had not have been there for me. The group have annual meetings, this years will be our first, as our daughter, Poppy-Leigh was born on the 19th December 03 she is now 14 weeks old. If you like i will e-mail you privstly to tell you our story of pregnancy, birth and beyond. Also i hope i can tell you some of the things to expect. I did get your reply to one of my last postings. THANKS.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Love and best wishes to you all. Clare and family. xxx

Hi!
My son was born in Lisbon the exact same day with the same problem on the same arm. Bad coincidence... :-/
He is having surgery next monday and I am pretty nervous about it... :-/
He moves his hand (all fingers) and shoulder and rotates his hand a little but cannot lift his arm so the doctor decided to go for surgery next monday.
I hope your daughter is better. good luck.
