Just wanted to share the great news with everyone. He is 1 week post acromio, clavicularectomy, and caps. Protocol states we can de-splint 2x's/day for 10 minutes and start limited ranging.
I couldnt believe my eyes!!! He can actually turn his hand over and look at his palm. He had a huge smile on his face when he relized he could do it. Thank you God for all blessings you have given us. Today was truly a remarkable day in the Stiegerwalt household.
Even the positioning of the arm is so normal. The internal rotation is gone. The shoulders are even. He looks awesome. I'm glad we went through with the surgery. I hope the progress continues. Oh and he can clap his hands together normally. He used to bring the unaffected hand up to the other(palm down).

Allison, Matthew had to wait for 4 weeks to do any shoulder ROM. The protocol indicated shoulder ROM after 1 week, however Dr. Nath advised us otherwise.

As per Dr. Nath:

"The elbow ROM should begin after the first week. The shoulder ROM at 4 weeks and the therapist can begin working with Matthew at 9 weeks, after the splint
is completely off."

Just wanted to pass this along to you.....

Allison, isn't that wonderful! I know I was very excited to see Aaron supinate when I desplinted him also. Just one word of caution, be careful not to let his take his arm to midline. Of course, your protocols will be different than ours as Aarons problems were in the back of the shoulder (posterior dislocation) not in the front and that is one thing that they really stressed to us. "Taking his arm to midline will cause the tendons in the back of the shoulder to stretch" is what they told us. But like I said your protocols will be different than ours. Aaron and I get into the jet tub everyday and stretch that arm out since his bicep is getting so tight. I love to see new things like this though it makes me feel better about doing this surgery.

Matt's Dad & Paula,
Thanks you for the input on the shoulder and going to mid-line. Got It! It's on the protocol. It's states we can start ranging on the shoulder, however, He's just not ready, nor am I. I just unravveled the arm part and work on fingers. hand, wrist, and elbow. This is so very exciting for us. I hope your sweet children are doing well also. I e-mailed Dr. Nath, and he advised me that the supination should continue. Keeping my fingers crossed.
