Hey guys, i dont really post on here, but here goes ....Im 23 and my now 3yr old daughter is going in for surgery to transfer muscles and tendons. I dont even know what the surgery is called but i do know they will be doing it from the armpit area and its a 3 1/2 hour surgery.. Im soooo nervous! I find myself ready to throw up at just a thought of it the past week or so, Ive even been crying myself to bed! I know plenty of you have been through this and i was looking for any and all types of cheering up possible.. I dont want her to know im scared and at this rate i cant even imagine the day of the surger...Is this a common surgery?? Will my baby be ok??? someone please help

I sometimes feel that I can't sleep either. Is this her first surgery? I was scared too. My son just had his first last month. It was 3 hours long. I was scared but since your child is over 1 they will let you go in the surgery room until the anestesia goes in and she falls asleep. I even had second thoughts running through my mind. Don't worry she'll be fine. EMAIl me if you need to talk. Ann

I can sympathize with your concern. My daughter has a LOBPI and she too is going to have her first surgery done on November 17th at TCH. She will be having the primary surgery performed. As I have been told my soo many, You are doing what you think is best for your child and try no to second-guess yourself. Just stay strong. It will be O.K.

Brandie,
Your daughter is beautiful! What a gorgeous little girl...Where is she having surgery? My son had his first surgery for muscle and tendon transfers at 2 1/2. We were very scared too, but we got through it together and he did so much better than we thought he did. The first few hours after surgery are difficult, but she'll have pain medicine, and don't be scared to speak up if you think she needs more at any time. If you think it would help, ask for some sedation medicine while you're in the pre-op holding area. Try your best not to show your daughter you're scared. It sounds like it's the "mod quad" surgery and it is common for these kids. It does allow a lot of new movemement which you will be thrilled with when recovery and splinting is over. It will take therapy and time to see the best results, so be patient, but your little girl will be fine.
Best of luck to you!
Jaime

mY SONS FIRST SURGERY WAS BACK IN JUNE 2003 I WENT DOWN THERE BY MYSELF WITH HIM WHILE HIS DAD AND SISTER STAYED HOME ALTHOUGH IT WAS VERY EXHAUSTING BOTH PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY I FOUND OUT THAT I WAS AT THE BEST PLACE FOR HIM. GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY JUST REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE IN MY OPINION AND THE BEST HOSPITAL, EVERYONE IS WONDERFUL AND SUPPORTIVE.

Dear Brandie,
We will keep you in our prayers. We just got back from Texas. They are so great there. Just know that you are doing what is best for her. My son is 3 years old and he did good after surgery. His pain was minimal. He is running around playing like nothing happened. We thought sleeping would be a problem, but he is even sleeping good. Just remember that you have people who care and are here for you. Your daughter is beautiful. E-mail if you have any questions about my stay or if you just want to talk.

Brani, You are doing the right thing. I know that it is scary at the time, however, you must remember you are helping her out for her later years. I am an adult wiht lobpi and had the surgery in Sept. I have regained two inches in length (it was shrinking the older I got) and am regaining strength now. I too went to TCH and they are great there! I know it will go well for you and welcome to the boards! Keep us updated please.
