Can anyone out there tell me what kind and size of clothes I need to have for Carson after primary surgery. He would be in 3-6mths normally.
I don't know if anyone else felt/feels this way but he has so many cute things that he may never wear!! Who would have guessed that this could happen to any of us. You know,i'm still in that VERY mad stage even though I know being mad will not help!! I'd like to add a thank you to all of you out there who have helped will all my silly questins the last few weeks!

Jamie - what hospital is Carson having primary? The type of immobilization will define the clothing needs....

TCH uses a foam immobilizer that you can put over clothes. You can see a picture of it here: http://www.injurednewborn.com/maia/homepage2.html

But other hospitals do half body casting, etc. - don't know what size would be good for that... let us know where... (I'm sorry I don't remember)

We are going to TCH. I'll go and check out the picture on your web site. So, the clothes don't need to be any bigger? Do I need to bring short sleeves or long sleeves or are overalls better? Thanks

I used 1 size up for primary and only used button up shirts so that I could not button up the button by the hand and would tuck the shirt behind the hand so that he could still pass toys back and forth from hand to hand. People stared alot at his hand that was sticking out from the middle of his shirt but he was happy that he could still use his hand and that is what mattered!

Sophie is wearing a size 1 summer-weight sleeping bag for her post surgery atire, I just tuck the arm back inside and button it up. She is bandaged from toe to knee on both legs has a padded dressing on her forearm (another donor site) and in the neck/ shoulder crease. Her arm is in a sock like tube that goes over her arm with her thumb poking out, it is set like she has a broken arm I guess.

There are wraps over here in Australia called Snug as a bug wraps, they might be helpful? Here is a link for the site...http://www.femail.com.au/snug_bug.htm

if you have t-shirts go for the ones with the snaps so that it doesn't have to go over his head...

don't do overalls especially with buckles.... his incision will be from his ear to his shoulder and you want all pressure all that area

check that picture of Maia out and you'll see what I mean...

you can easily take off the immobilizer and keep the arm supported for washing and changing clothing... I was SO intimated by it at first but it was really ok after a day or so.

Beedle.... that wrap is SO CUTE!! I had something like that and Maia didn't want her unaffected arm inside like that - it bugged her to death!! probably was her sensory issues...

Hi! I am a mom with a bpi child too, Kallie is 4 and has only had the mod quad and is going for the capsualdesis on Feb 3rd. Anyways, I just started making baby blankets similar to the ones from that site mentioned above and selling them as a little stay at home business. If you are interested I can email you the flyer with pictures. Francine has offered me a page on her site to help market them because they are so good for babies that just had surgery.
