I'm a diabetic as well as a bpi.Pain has not been very strong from the bpi.Last night I had my first hypo.[low blood sugar] since my accident. After drinking a can of coke to lift the sugar level, the pain in my right thumb & wrist became very intense. It lasted for about 3 hours. Is there a link?

Geoff - I don't know about the aspects of whether or not blood sugar levels affect pain..

BUT..I do intimately know that consumption of sugar and non essential carbs certainly increase pain levels and that when consuming a high protein, low carb diet, pain levels shoot down DRAMATICALLY.

I think your best bet is to try it yourself. If you'd like details about a low carb diet, check out Dr. Atkins site. or read some of the hords and hords of low carb diet info that's out there now. Since you are diabetic - I would also think it best to consult with your doctor before embarking on a dietary change.

Good luck - I hope you find good results with this if you try it.

Happy Holidays,

I am ROBI and insulin dependent dibetic. My Dr. has told me that the Atkins diet is not safe. Low carb is one thing but a balance of protein, fat and protein need to be consumed to maintain optimal health and blood sugar levels. I don't notice any difference in pain -I know I notice a difference in my level of alertness--carbs make me lethargic. Thanks. Pat
