for over 2 years i have had no sense of heat or cold on my arm. i could put my arm on a stove and cook it and not feel it.
yesterday, i put my arm on the car door and said OUCH THAT IS HOT!! i was about to jump up and down!! but since i was driving at the time, i could not do that.

now if i could get some strength and movement in my fingers it would be really good. i can make a fist, but other movement is just not there. but i will be ok either way

Congrats JMAR...that is so awesome! I hope you just keep right on going.

I am 10 months post injury and 3 months post op with nerve transfer and can just now feel hot/cold in my thumb, but rest of hand/wrist is numb and without any function. I'm hoping I get some hand/finger movement sometime in the next few months.

Best wishes for continued recovery. Go celebrate!

Jeff

Hi :D ,
How do you get grasp
Well hopefully these things will help  out of my bag of trys :D
If you have very little movement this is ware I start with , caveman years ago :D
For me it was trying to put things in my hand and try to squeeze or hold it with my wich hand. Try things like a small punch up rag or a round sort piece of something like part of a broom handle. If you can grasp it and hold it leave it in your hand for a while. This trick came from Easter Seals in the 1950s I learn Plus squeezing a small rubber ball
(Over Time) you will get more back and that will in-able you to use your limitation to aid your good arm with activity you want to do ;) Even if your left with very little use-age you still end up building strength in the limitation your left with and you learn to assist your good arm any way ;) ;) :D It all works out, I think??? :D
Your Doing GREAT :D Just give yourself slack to adapt it happen , Really  ;) Joy comes from our Determination to try ;) Which by Post no one here is lacking :D That Joy for you ;)
Mr Positive,

my fingers will bend to make a fist but will not move from side to side. so, that is how i grasp things. i dont put small items such as coins in my hand because they fall through my fingers.

Really Jmar
Ok  I cant move my hand side to side or turn it over in the erbs hand , Ever
My total ability is over hand to grasp and most of grasp come from 4 fingers , I could only achieve a few inch raise in my arm my hole life  with out treatment after 10
You will adapt what ever your end limitation are, I think base on being a biker and driving a semi for years with so little use with my erbs  This is your unwritten story and of futures and ability yet not seen , but then there are so many Positive post by so many like US ;) :D
Was this surgery for your hand and grasp?? No clue
I hope you try just squeezing a rubber ball even if its a little overtime you can end up grasping and walking with it. I still do it , sometime I forget it in my hand ,some time I wake up and it still in my hand, It like Worry beads or something
For me that rubber ball idea I got from Easter seals help me a lot to gain grasp even if its over hand ;) :D I think Dans slings for resting a arm is a great  to ;) :D
