Savannah had her first surgery 4 days ago. She had an isolated nerve transfer surgery. I am quickly becoming a nervous wreck. First of all, the surgery seems to have set her back in her range of motion. She had some range of motion from her shoulder, and now it seems like we are back to square one. Is that normal? Will it come back? Also, because she cannot hold her arm out to balance herself, she is falling like crazy...and landing on her hand of the injured side. I am so paranoid that this will jar the nerve and mess up the entire transfer. The doctor said there is nothing she can do to herself that will dislodge the nerve...but does falling count? I hope there is someone that reads this and has been down the same road as me to give me some advice!

I know you posted this a while ago, but I haven't visited in a while. My daughter had surgery at 4 months and she had some movement but not much. After they took off the cast she looked HORRIBLE. The little bit of movement she had gained in the 4 months prior to surgery was gone. I wondered if I had made a huge mistake, but little by little she gained movement, and now after nearly 2 years post op she has more than I ever could of imagined. It takes a very long time and it feels like forever but you will see a difference. Hang in there!!

My son had a nerve graft at nearly 6 months of age.By that point he had very limited function and after the cast was removed he was back to square one with limited movement.But what seems like over night ( technically 2 years later) he too is doing more with his bp arm then we could have ever hoped for he lifts it above his head and although we as mom & dad see he favors it slightly we r the only ones to notice an injury.He is having some complications in the shoulder with a muscle that isn't working & will require one more surgery but we are more then pleased & grateful for all he's over come.We doubted our choice at first with the nerve surgery but parent doesn't question such a thing?? All I know is we had a fabulous outcome and are blessed for our team of doctors & of course all the answered prayers*
