Been 8 months since my injury....

Hey Everyone.

Not sure if any of you remember me - but in early March I sustained a hockey injury (dislocated shoulder, fractured Humerus & stretched nerves from my neck down to my finger tips).

My arm was completely dead for about a week, after a week I could slightly move a finger, and over the month(s) the movement slowly came back to all fingers. I had physio for about 4 months (3 days a week) which helped a lot. They weren't sure if I would require surgery at first - but they noticed the nerves were slowly healing themselves and surgery would not be required.

I have now gone for 3 EMG's, and in each one they are seeing progress.

I was taking Gabapentin for about 3 months to help me sleep as the pain was unbearable at night. This WAS by far the worst injury i've ever had. I remember coming on this site during those days of pain and struggle and reading other peoples stories and one thing I noticed was not many people came back after they were healed (or partially healed) so I wanted to give some hope and shed some light to a few of you...even though my injury may not have been as bad as some people's It was excruciatingly bad for me. The doctors told me they were "optimistic" of a full recovery in 1-3 years.

Its been 8 months since my injury and....

I am happy to say I am back at work - I am typing this with both hands. I am playing soccer and hockey again (albeit a little more carefully).

I still don't have full range of motion in my shoulder - I would say I have about 65-70% range of motion. I am not currently doing physio anymore - however I am actually going to go back and get on a program to start doing it again.

The nerve "pain" is completely gone - and I am no longer on any medications - however the feeling in my hand and the dexterity is still not back to normal. My hand is still much more sensitive to heat and cold - and it has a constant feeling of pins and needles. I am not sure if that will ever go away - but at least my hand can function at about 85-90% of normality.

The doctors have basically set me free - and said unless I am experiencing anything out of the ordinary I don't need anymore EMGS, or any other treatment.

I truly hope the rest of you either have the same results as me already or can see some light at the end of the tunnel for this long, excruciating injury.

Good luck friends.

Its great to hear how wonderfully you have recovered!!! Especially that the pain is gone! How awesome is that!

Thanks for posting a positive story, so many time we get stuck by the down side of this injury.
