Michael is a ROBPI 9 year old w/ headaches

Hi,
I've seen old posts from 2010 about individuals w/headaches. I was wondering if there is any research out there about BP and headaches. The neurologist we see said Michael is the 1st BP kiddo she has seen. Which I found interesting. Is it because we don't report it to our BP physician, those in KCMO, or do we ignore the headaches and simply provide OTC medication? Or is it something else?

Michael has tried 2 different types of medications to no avail. I'm not of the mind set to try a third. What alternatives maybe even non-Western methods have others tried.

He currently recieves a monthly cranio-sacral massage which I'm not sure helps at all with the headaches but helps with the flexibility of his right arm.

Thanks,
Teresa

Do you go to CMH in KCMO? If so who are you seeing? That is where we go with our 16 month old. I don't know about headaches associated with BPI but my 12 year old get migraines. After about a year of going through them about every 2 months, we narrowed down the cause to food sensitivies and schedule changes (stressors) They started about the time she was 9 or 10. Now if her schedule will change drastically we have to make sure she eat more proteins and less carbs. I know it sounds crazy but if she eats normal and stays the night (for example) with a friend and her sleep gets off schedule -migraine with in 36 hours.

HI DJ mom,
yes we go to CMH in KCMO and see Rinaldi for BP and Bickel in neurology for headaches. Who did you see about your daughters heachaches? I agree it may have to do with lack of protiens and we need to watch the carbs, especially at breakfast. What will your daughter to eat to keep her protiens up?
A 36 hour window, interesting.

Thank you
Teresa

We also see Rinaldi for BPI, we have an appt on the 10th. My daughter has only seen our ped. but the migraines seem to be controllable (?). They get the worst during the summer while she is competing in rodeo. It is hard to eat on a reular schedule when she is waiting for her events/age group. We make sure she has a good breakfast consisting of eggs and bacon. Usually in a burrito. Then keep her hydrated and she always has a bag of beef jerky and/or protein bars on her saddle. On a normal day as long as she gets enough sleep and eats breakfast, even if it is PB on toast and milk, she eats school lunch, then a balanced meal at dinner, she gets along fine USUALLY. The 36 hour thing seemed strange to us too when dr. suggested it. He asked about stress. When they first started we were thinking stress at the moment or shortly before but dr said that the body gets stressed and adrenaline is produced to get through it then as the body comes down the mirgaine happens. ( I am paraphrasing) When we started to track her eating habits and sleeping habits and everything else that is when we started to notice a pattern of stressful situation then a certain time frame to migraine. She is pretty good about knowing when they are coming on now and taking her Ibuprofen with a Coke and then going to bed. If she gets to them ealry she says they are not as bad. If she doesn't catch them and they get to the full blown blurry vision, nausea, sensitive to sound and light, she goes to bed with a mask and the house is quiet for the night. But I think she is also getting better at handling the stressors that trigger them in the first place. It is like BPIs, not all injuries are equal and not all treatments work for everyone and there is not a quick fix.

Thank you for the info. Bickle wants us to stay on the medication for 2 more weeks and see if there is any improvement. I hadn't thought of protein bars. I'll add that to our snack list. Good luck on your upcoming appt. We really like Rinaldi and the OT/PT staff at CMH.
