Looking for a doctor

Hello everyone, I have been on this site, but it has been some time, shame on me. I have a left shoulder Brachial Plexus injury do to a gun shot wound to my left shoulder. In 1997 Dr. Klein and Dr, Tiel in New Orleans did the surgery. They got rid of my initial burning in my elbow, that was driving me to suicide. Since getting rid of the burning in my elbow I have gotten my life back with the meds. that I am on, still have moderate pain but try to get by everyday. My Doctor is a general practicioner and does not know too much about this injury, only what I tell him from these forums. I was wondering if anyone could help me find a Doctor in South Florida, I live in Boca Raton. I still have no use of my left hand at all, it is just a helper and now I am having some issues with my bad hand. What the operation did for me was to get rid of the bad pain in my elbow and my arm is not flacid anymore, I can move my arm up and down, but that is the extent of it. So if anyone could recommend a good specialist for this type of injury, I would greatly appreciate it. I pray for everyone on this board which I have been doing for years. Thank You, Philip

The only doctors I have experience with are the bpi specialist at mayo clinic in minnesota. They are excellent in both personalities and profession, but I know not everyone can get to the mayo clinic. I don't personally know anyone from florida on this board or I would recommend you ask them. Maybe try asking on the general board?

Good luck,
Ang :)

Philip,
I have a 28 yr old son with RBPI, 5 avulsions with surgery done up at the Mayo in 2004, auto accident in 2003, back then we did a lot of research and found out that there were not any doctors locally that were proficient in this injury, as I still check on the boards I still haven't heard of anyone down here. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Good Luck. By the way met with either Dr. Kline of Dr. Tiel (LSU Medical in New Orleans) he was a very nice guy and we appreciated his advice and his candidness.

Isn't he still in New Orleans? I think his name is on the resources-> medical directory. I know dr. Klein retired, and his position was taken over by Dr. Wale Sulaiman at ochsner clinic on jefferson.

I'm sorry to say Dr Tiel passed away last year. He moved his practice to Mississippi. He was extremely generous and helpful to me during the early stages of my injury and recovery.

You may want to try and call the Mayo and ask if they can refer specialist in your area.

Beat of Luck,
Christopher
