Hi Francine,

When the Dr's explained to us how large her cast would be and because of what I had read from both you and others that have used the sol splints, we both clothes much bigger that Sarah needed. She normally wears a size 6 shirt so the smallest she is wearing now is a 10. Most over the heads work ok but buttons are easier. We got most of the clothes for this 5-6 week period at the Salvation Army, the cast is rough to the touch which makes it rough on the fabric. That way also I don't feel bad about cutting things to fit since most of the arms are too long. Pants aren't a problem, same size as before although I did find it easier to go up 1 size on underwear since it is more difficult for Sarah to do hygiene activities by herself. The pants though do tend to rub under the edge of the cast, it appears as though the cast sits right on the waist band of her pants. I hope this is helpful. Mary

Katie doesn't have the bracing bar but I have noticed that Cheryl made the brace bigger (it is arched in sort of a rounded way away from her belly and back) and the arm position makes it a little harder to get shirts on. She is the exact same weight as the mod but the 3t we bought her for that is really tight and the long sleeve ones are even tighter. And while the hard part of the brace doesn't go as far around her chest as mod it is a little longer and her pants rub on the bottom of it and slide down.

I have finally realized last night that we will have to do sponge baths for a while...her arm is way too strong in that 90 degree position and she wiggles entirely too much for the safety of her arm's position. Kim and I are so frazzled after the bath and we end up scolding katie so we will just do sponge baths for a while. 14 weeks and 6 days to go. God I hope it goes quickly and she sleeps better soon. She gets evil when she knows it is time to take it off and throws these major tantrums...I don't know if it is painful or just SPOILED ROTTEN!!
