A little (or long) update

Holy cow, am I posting on the right site? Some amazing work was done here. :o It's been quite a while since I posted so I thought I'd update a little. I finally was cleared to have knee surgery, almost a year and a half after the accident. It's been difficult adjusting as I have to be non-weight bearing on that leg for six weeks and after that can only add 25lbs a week of weight. For normal people this would not be much of a problem as they can use crutches, but with the bp injury, my mobility has been drastically reduced. So it's back to living with mom and dad for a while. They're great but I can't wait until I can move back into my apartment and be independant again. :)
This surgery has had a special significance. As some of you may know when the accident occurred a doctor stopped to help who also happened to be an orthopedic surgeon at the Mayo Clinc. He pretty much saved my dad's life and mine. He also happened to be one of the only surgeons in the country who specializes in knee reconstruction so he is now my knee surgeon. He calls me his miracle because I shouldn't be alive. Pretty neat stuff! :)
It's also been about 10 months since my nerve transfers and I am noticing a tiny bit of re-enervation in my fingers and wrist. Odd thing is my brain says I'm straightening my index finger when my finger actually curls. The nerves are a little confused, lol. Still it's nice to start seeing a little results.
It's been around 8-9 months since my shoulder surgery and that's been life changing with more immediate results. My shoulder no longer hangs out of the socket and the pain is GREATLY reduced as a result. I'm getting stronger and stronger movement and that makes a difference in quality of life. If I can just get some flexion in my elbow I will be pretty happy. It's hard to believe that I went from a shoulder fusion as my only option to now having a working shoulder. Amazing!
All in all I'm feeling pretty happy and looking foreward to the future. I wish the same on all of you.

Ang :)
