Botox

Does anyone have experience using botox to make a muscle weaker?

My OT has mentioned it for my left scalene muscles as I am developing Thoracic Outlet Syndrome on my left side.

I am skeptical to do it though as I recieved my BPI from a surgery for TOS on my right side. If the botox is injected incorrectly I am worried about it paralyzing my left muscles and/or hurting a nerve.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks

(I have seen previous posts by users, but they seem to focus more on muscles in the arm)

I had Botox used to weaken my left leg (to get rid of spasticity) for over 2 years. (I have a spinal cord injury from 2004).
It wear off after 3-6 months. Try it once see if it works for you/if it is worth doing again.

(Different I know...but) My son has had his internal rotators botoxed twice now, both times with remarkable results and gains for his weaker external rotators. I understand the "what if" feeling...it will forever be hard to completely trust a procedure. But again, with practically "no risk", the outcomes have been amazing.

Botox was used to weaken my son's left tricep muscle. I would be more than glad to describe our experience via email. If you are interested please feel free to email me at njacoby499@yahoo.com. Look forward to hearing from you.

Hey everyone!

Thanks for the information.

I am slowly beginning to consider it more and more after reading about it, but I guess still nervous. I do not think I would try anything until summer 2010 though as I do not want to risk it affecting my nursing clinicals. So I have plenty of time to research and figure it all out. Just want to get a head start.

Again thanks for the info!
