Secondary Surgery/Clothes to Wear

My daughter Carley is going to have secondary surgery and I need to know what others have done for clothes. Her surgery will be done in Boston, MA and she will be in a body cast that is not removable(unlike those done at Texas Children). She is a very active 31/2 years old and I feel the six weeks will be a huge challenge. Her surgery will be on September 19th. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Lynne Byers

Lynne, the easiest and most comfortable clothes will be t-shirts that are about 2 sizes too big. They will fit over the cast and hide alot and be comfortable(as can be possible. Then save them for later when she'll grow into them. I don't know where you live but if it is cool, try to find or have a poncho crocheted.Easier than sweaters.LeeAnne

The t shirts are a huge help. One of Kate's was during cold weather and we needed long sleeves. It did not matter how big we bought them those sleeves just would not fit over the SOL or caps splints. we ended up buying just a few long sleeve and cutting one sleeve off (I got light weight long sleeve tshirt types) at the appropriate length so that we could cut the other sleeve off later for short sleeves. Same thing with her coat, we took a used one (you could try a resale shop) and took the whole sleeve out and then used a scarf to wrap around and cover the arm/splint. They tend to get kind of warm in those things so I wouldn't get anything too heavy.

The above poster reminded me of this. While at the hospital ask for the comfort cap shampoo. You can also buy them at walgreens next to the comfort bath. It works great for the first few days after surgery. Just warm it ,put it on the head massage and walh your all done. no rinse required. Good Luck, LeeAnne
