UPDATE: blisters on affected hand

I took my son to the pediatrician because the blisters were bursting and his poor little fingers were turning all red and purple and swelling up. The dr. said that his fingers were infected and put him on an oral antibiotic. She said it looked like he burned himself. I keep asking Joseph what happened and he says, "I don't know." He can't feel it so it's not hurting him (thank God). It looks SO painful. I think he might have turned the hot water on in my bathtub and put his hand under it. Not 100% sure though. It's disturbing to me that he can injure himself and not even know it. How am I supposed to protect him from injury if we don't know how he was injured in the first place? Anyway, hopefully with the antibiotic it will get better. We've gone almost three years without this happening. Unfortunately, I think this will be the first of many injuries to his affected hand/arm. Thanks for all your replies on this matter.

He is old enough now to be taught that he should not touch the hot taps, stove... All kids need to learn this of course, but especially kids with diminished or no feeling in parts of their bodies.

Wow! Well I am glad he went to the doctor and hopefully the antibiotics will take care of it.

That is rough though. It is something that I am sure he will continue to learn as he gets older.

I hope it all turns out well

He knows not to touch the stove and if we tell him something is hot he will get away from it but I guess because he couldn't feel it being hot he didn't know not to touch it. I am going to teach him to test the water first with his right pointer finger before he submerges any other body parts.
