Dislocated Elbow

My daughter is 11. She has had 4 surgeries under Dr. Nath's care. We've always been concerned about her elbow it started out by slipping in and out of joint and has been doing this for several years. Dr. Nath was not concerned.
We had an x-ray taken recently and now the elbow is totally dislocated. We were told by her local Orthopedist that if anything is going to be done it needs to be done soon because she only has 1 to 2 years of growth plate left. Has anyone else had this experience? Was surgery performed and has it helped? Her local Orthopedist that did not feel comfortable performing the surgery said we needed to see a Pediatric Orthopedic Specialist possibly back in TX under Dr. Nath and we were given no other referrals.

If you check out the home page, there is a referrals page. There's lots of specialists listed by area. We travel out to Philly to see Dr Kozin, he's great. I strongly recommend getting at least a second opinion, maybe a third so you can feel comfortable with the options available.

We found out when Frankie was doing the serial casting his elbow got to 35 degrees and the ulnar bone was popping out so we went to see Dr Kozin and he said at 15 yrs old his elbow was permantely dislocated also saw an ortho at philly children's hosp said nothing could be done. Frankie had many surgiers his last was at 14 with Dr Nath and with all the MRI's and xrays no one ever mentioned his elbow to me if they had we would have been able to prevent it. Frankie now wears a heelbo during sports to protect it doctors said if he falls he can break it and then it would have to be fused taking away what little use he has of the arm. My advice is get it fixed before it gets to bad and can't be fixed they told us the socket was to bored out from slipping in and out that to put it back with surgery would be a waste because it would just pop out again and there was no way of keeping it in place. Hope this helps Mare
