A woman at work keeps trying to convince me that essential oils can help my nerves grow faster. Anyone here know anything about these?

Exactly.. it's BS. BUT Vitamin B12 is good for nerve growth/health. You might want to check your levels (blood test) or just buy some at the pharmacy and take a pill a day. One Vit B12 pill won't hurt you and may help..

Omega-3 fatty acids are very important for nerve conductivity. The Myelin Sheath that surrounds each nerve and insulates it, enables it to conduct its signals. There have been studies that show that the lack of Omega-3s can hinder the Myelins ability. 60% of the brain weight is fat, this fat helps the relay of signals and communications between neurons, with out it we're screwed.

To be on the safe side, I'd be loading up on Omega-3s. When I started doing that (3 years post injury) my depression finally started lifting, which may be due to the fact I was taking a more well rounded better care of my self. I take it regularly now, but wish I'd been taking immediately after my accident . If you read up on it, there are many other benefits from taking it as well.

Good Luck,
Christopher

PS also if someone wants to contribute by proving or disproving any information that is trying to be shared or understood, it'd help if it is backed up by an explanation of personal experience, or an actual study. We've all got opinions, and its great to share them, but peoples lives are on the line here with these injuries, so we might want to think twice before coughing up an answer (just me opinion ;-)).

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't have a lot of faith in what she was saying/selling. I found it ironic that she was so 'gung ho' on these non-FDA Approved oils when we both work in a major pharma company! :o) I have been taking a B complex vitamin, but thanks for the good info on the omega-3s.

thanks!
