My attempt for awareness

I recently visited 2 local hospitals and talked to those in charge of birthing classes. I presented the Awareness brochure and asked if I could speak to new classes about the issue and tell my story. Of course they have to get approval, so I'm waiting for an answer. One of the lady's reluctant response "shocked me". She said she was concerned it would cause "undue stress" to the mother. OMG!! My response was, "I'm trying to prevent an injury!" I'll post later with results.

BRAVO, Margaret!!! Great Idea if one is brave to present like you are. Hope you get fed-back and can share with us.
I do Awareness stuf al year long on the internetwhere I go in support/social areas like Facebook. I have young Grand-Neices that I've "gotten" interested to know more...we never talk about my injury in the family...:(

Awesome! Awareness like this is fantastic. After the PBS documentary Spotlight-On comes out we will be able to have copies of the show available for our community. I would bet something like that would be great to show at a class like this.

Rich,

When is the documentary expected to be shown? This would be great awareness! I have been speaking to local MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) groups here about prevention and just spreading the awareness that these injuries exist. They are MOPS groups everywhere, so that would be a thought for anyone interested. Also, some smaller local papers may be interested in writing a story as well. We were able to get 2 papers to write up "our story".

Great Job, Bellasnana!

UPDATE! One of the nurses will allow me to drop off the awareness brochures which she will make available to the new birthing classes and leaves it up to the parents if they choose to take one or not. YEAH!
Now for other awareness good news -- I am going to have a free booth at local school health fair! I'M SO EXCITED for the opportunity !!!!! I will have the chance to have a display board and hand out as many brochures as possible!! It is March 31st and I'll post how it went!

Sorry for the delayed reply. The SpotlightOn program footage was filmed in late february. They are taking all the HiDef footage and compiling it onto DVD's for our review. There is ALOT of footage for this small piece of film, so we need to pick the best parts o put the story together. Once we decide what we want, it will only take 2-3 weeks to put it all together.

Don't worry, we will make a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT when the airings start. We are still looking for donations as well towards the project costs. There are many ways to donate, by sending a check or even using paypal. Every cent donated will be put towards SpotlightOn and prevention/awareness efforts if you indicate that is where you want the donation to be used.

so please consider!
