Tendon Transfer

Hi everyone! Been a long time since I've posted. Trying to move on from the injury. But now it's time for a possible tendon transfer and I wanted to know if anyone's has had this procedure done, or if their children have and if so, what were the results.

Really at odds trying to make a decision on this one. If it's going to be more cosmetic or the range of motion is going to be minimal, I'm not sure its worth it for us.

I'd love to hear what everyone thinks!

Thanks in advance!

I had a tendon transfer at age 9, with good outcome. It was a forearm tendon transfer. It is the only surgery I had, and it was done to place my wrist in a straight position (correct ulnar deviation caused by muscle imbalance) and direct future bone growth.

I gained a bit of ROM, but I have to say I do use that little bit every day.

This might be nothing like your situation, but in my case it was worth doing.

My hospital experience was not a big deal at age 9; one or two icky days and some good memories mixed in, plus the cast.

I had a tendon transfer at age 14 with good results, both function and cosmetic (my arm hangs better now). I went from NO external rotation, to getting it to neutral. Had I had it done when I was younger I would have had even better results.
