Gabrielle had no trouble sitting up after the surgery with the immobilizer on. She could sit unassisited when she was 3 months old. She could not get herself up to the sitting postion without help.

Surgery won't affect his ability to sit up.

However, if he hasn't sat up yet, you should seek advice and help from a PT. Some children with bpi also have low tone issues and they reach these kinds of milestones later on. Maia really need a lot of PT help to get this kind of stuff moving and she was a very late walker too, (22 months).

How's he doing?

If he was already sitting with the support of both hands, then it might be a little tough for him to balance with just one. If that's the case, you might try using a Boppy pillow to help support him.

If he was already sitting with the support of just the non-injured arm, then I wouldn't think there would be an impact.

If he's not sitting up yet, then again perhaps the Boppy pillow might help as well as advice from a PT. I hope this helps. Best wishes to a great recovery. Take care. -Tina (Nicole's Mom)
