For some reason Dr's are reluctant to give out narcotic medicine, especially if the patient has/had an addiction to alcohol or drugs. Some Dr's are more giving than others. The fact your son is getting percocet is a blessing. I have battled to no avail to get a prescription of pain meds that work, and the best they can do for me is Tramadol and Lidocaine ointment. I have learned to live with some of my pain. I hope your son can too.

My surgeon and his Fellows are adamant that narcotics do more long term harm than the injury does to the patient.
They were both furious to find my pain management doctor had me on narcotics and told me to talk to him about getting me off of them as soon as possible.
I am on valium. He did not greatly object to that but also stated I will be having serious withdrawal problems when I come off them.
My surgeon only believes in narcotics will in the hospital and to be taken off of them before discharge.

Sincerely
Janelle 54
