Back from Mayo - good news

Hi,

We went to the Mayo with Eric last week expecting he'd have surgery- nerve transfer to deltoid, as all the other nerves/muscles appear to be strengthening. But, miracle of miracles, the axillary nerve seems to be waking up after almost 8 months. The EMG's indicated lots of "nascent' activity, and in the last 2 weeks Eric had been getting some abduction back. So they sent him home, and wished him well for more recovery.

Now it's a matter of waiting and physio/training, and hoping for the best. We are so grateful that Eric has been, as Dr. Shin said, very, VERY lucky.

I want to thank this forum for existing, and everyone for their helpful and supportive posts. It has made a big difference for us.

Hope Smith

That is good news!! We also cancelled Dustin's surgery and we are playing the waiting game. Things keep improving slowly.......
Good luck and hope it all comes back they way they think it will.

Fantastic news Hope!

What a great and beautiful thing! Keep him on that physio/training. That's the only thing that will guarantee a best recovery. Nerves wont grow unless that electro-chemical impulse is constantly pushing them along towards their target muscle. For folks with spinal cord injuries, it is still the best strategy towards recovery.

Its nice to read that someone is making it thru the BPI gauntlet towards recovery and eluded surgeons blade! Congrats!

Best Wishes,
Christopher
