I am unable to raise my arm at all. I was wondering if anyone has ever had any kind of muscle transfers to be able to raise your arm. I had a latisimus muscle transfer to be able to bend my elbow, but I am not having any luck with it. Please post any encouraging stories. I am getting very discouraged with my results.

Thank You,
Heather

Hi Heather...
It may be different as per age..but my daughter's muscle transfer worked well for her overall. Her arm strength & presentation improved big time. NOT right away, and we still did physio, but she's seen an improvement. Chin up...A frustrating aspect of the surgeries is how long it takes to see differences sometimes. Keep working on it...Hugs, Kimba
PS Dani my daughter is 8 yrs old ROBPI- 2 surgeries

Heather, my daughter had the Mod Quad surgery at TCH (which was a series of muscle / tendon transfers, muscle releases, nerve decompression, and neurolysis) when she was just under 2 y.o. We saw immediate results, as soon as we removed the post-op splint after several weeks. She was only able to raise her arm about 90 degrees post-op and is at about 180 w/compensation now and has been pretty much since surgery. I know that everyone has different results with surgeries, but this procedure was a huge success for our daughter. Of course, she was 2 y.o. and I don't know how much of a factor age is.
