BPI at age of 13.

My BPI was due to positioning on the operating table when I was 13. I was a right handed person. The day after surgery I was not able to hold a pen to write thank you notes with my right hand. My parents were told that it was due to underlying neurological problems and no recomendations for any treatment were ever made. I didn't have a BPI diagnosis until I was 21 years old. I went through a series of testing at that time to see if what I had was hereditary. I was rather shocked when my neurologist told me that it was a brachial plexus injury. I am now 50 years old. I am a wife and mother and have had a good life. I was wanting to know if there is any kind of treatment out there for someone my age or has it been too long ago.Would appreicate any comments. Thanks, Debra

Hi Debra,

I'm glad you found us - and that you finally can identify your condition. How frustrating that it took so many years - amazing.

Re length of time since injury - stay tuned to "Rocket Ray" - can't exactly remember but I think his injury might be around 10 years ago (anybody out there please correct me!). He's trying to schedule it at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester but has to get insurance straightened out first.

Take care,

Ellen

Just re-read Ray's earlier post - and his injury actually was in 1987. How are your pain levels?
