Spinal cord stimulation device

We visited a new pain management doctor today for Adam's continuous pain and he suggested an implanted spinal cord stimulation device. It works by stimulating targeted nerves that affect the areas of pain and change how the brain percieves the signals. The doctor, however, sounded like he was trying to sell us a car more than help, so I was wondering if any of you has tried this, heard of it and what you think. We are definately going to discuss it with his orthopedist and neurologist, but any input would be great. Thanks Sam

Carrie had a spinal cord/neuro stimulator installed a while ago and hasn't used it in years. It doesn't work properly. To get the stimulas to her fingers she has to crank it up so high, it aggrivates her shoulder very badly, and then it still doesn't reduce the pain. We've had it reprogramed repeatedly to redirect the signals, but is still doesn't relieve the pain as our car salesman/surgeon told us, but maybe it's just Carries injury, as they are all different, but so similar in other ways. If you decide to have one installed, hopefully it will work for you.
till next time, Dick

Hi
From my research I have found that these stimulators have never been shown to help the pain associated with nerve root avulsions, or bpi where the nerves are not in continuity. In injuries where nerves are damaged but intact, they may help but not permanently, and there is an obvious risk of surgery in the spinal area.
I read your post on the other message board and I would say that you should steer very clear of ANY doctor who isn't happy about you taking second or third opinions about this or anything else. It's your body, your pain, your life.
Sorry to be discouraging but I have been supporting people with brachial plexus injuries for some years now and have read thousands of articles about it, I have yet to meet anyone who has had success with this device.
