Hello all!!

I just had right shoulder& arm surgery, recovering nicely i guess to early to tell. She being my DR. found c5 c6 c7 where pulled out of my spine so my DR. explored down my arm and found a very strong nerve firing so my DR. jumped that nerve up into bicep and removed a ton of scar tissue from my shoulder area. My DR. is confident that i will get my elbow back from this surgery, i have my hand that works very well and it is getting stronger every day. DR. said i will need another surgery to regain my wist, the surgery to regain my wist is called tendion transfer, she will bring the tendion from my lower side of forearm and wrap it up over the topside of my forearm to my wist. I am only out three weeks from my surgery so i am not looking for a quick change in my arm i know it is gonna take time, pain has increased big time it is at times hard to handle refuse to take pain meds. only thing i take is Nurotien. Has anyone out there had this surgery and what type of sucess did you have back in the elbow and bicep. THANKS to EVERYONE FOR ALL YOUR HELP. This website has educated me on this brachial plexus injury BIGTIME i never heard of this injury you's have taught me alot!!!! THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!!!

My husband had a nerve transfer done in March of this year (his injury occured on Nov 1 of 2003). He went to Dr Nath in Houston and he did the transfer to regain shoulder & bicep function and also cleaned out scar tissue to improve hand function. He returned to OT 4 weeks after surgery and has been going 2 times a week since and doing stuff at home also. In July he started electrical stimulation therapy to help restore the bicep muscle (it had atrophied from not being used) - he also does this at home on the days he doesn't have therapy. And, yesterday he had his first movement against gravity. This is a very big improvement - Dr Nath still said it would be at least another month before he'd have any movement against gravity. So, it all just takes time and each person is different. I have learned you just need to take it one day at a time. I am wishing you all the luck in a speedy and full recovery.
